From Stuck to Success : The Magic of Coaching

Coaching has surged in popularity over the past 10 to 20 years, and for good reason. But why is it so effective in helping people reach their goals?

I worked for over 20 years in the UK property sector. Like many, I entered this field out of necessity, gradually getting used to the income and stability. However, doing work that didn't align with my true values and desires eventually left me feeling frustrated, lost, and unfulfilled.

I reached a point where even sitting quietly alone and reflecting my mind was so full of thoughts I struggled to actually work out what I actually wanted to do with my life. I felt discombobulated and didn't know what to do.

That’s when I discovered coaching.

So, I began to look for a life coach. I began to research lots of coaches, following them on social media and reading their websites, until I found one I really felt a connection with. I had a discovery call with her, explaining how I was feeling and where I wanted to go, and I booked a 3-month program. It was a financial investment, and I wondered if it was right to spend money on something that didn't guarantee results and seemed like an extravagant desire rather than a necessity. But I signed up anyway!

I developed a connection with my coach, and through her listening and probing questions, I gained a much clearer understanding of my true values and what was holding me back. I began to understand what work sat with my values, morals and beliefs and this clarity helped me move toward living authentically and doing a job I loved.

My coach helped me see how prepared I was to find solutions to the obstacles I was facing, both practically and mentally. She helped me commit to and apply actions between coaching sessions that brought me closer to my goals.

It was me exploring myself with the help of my coach. I identified and found solutions to my problems and what was holding me back, but my coach guided me through this exploration and helped me reach conclusions that supported positive changes.

Not a quick fix

Coaching isn’t a quick fix. It’s a deeply personal journey that requires commitment, honesty, and openness. My coach helped me uncover my true values, identify obstacles, and take actionable steps toward a fulfilling career that aligned with my passions.

Having a coach is like having someone in my corner, giving me undivided attention, listening, understanding, and prompting me to find the answers within myself.

Only yesterday, I heard a great description of a coach: a mountain guide. If you decide to climb a huge mountain, it would be wise to work with an experienced guide. They won't carry you and your baggage, but they will be by your side to support, motivate, guide, uplift when things get tough, and celebrate with you as you reach new heights. This is how I felt being coached. I had to commit, show up, be honest, be flexible, and do the work, but my coach was there holding my hand and supporting me all the way.

What’s needed to get the most out of coaching?

To get the most out of my coaching sessions, it was important to:

  • Be completely honest with myself and my coach—opening up in a confidential, non-judgmental, and professional space.

  • Be open-minded, adaptable, and believe in the possibilities visualised in the coaching sessions.

  • Commit to each session, putting aside any interruptions.

  • Put my trust in my coach. This was easier because my coach skilfully built rapport, demonstrated knowledge and credibility, and listened during our initial discussions.

What have I learned from my coaching experiences?

Here's what I learned about the transformative power of coaching:

  • Personalised Attention: Coaching provides undivided attention, understanding, and guidance, helping you find the answers within yourself.

  • Clear Goals and Actions: My coach helped me commit to specific actions between sessions, bringing me closer to my goals.

  • Support and Motivation: Like a mountain guide, a coach supports, motivates, and celebrates your achievements as you reach new heights.

Now, as a Nutrition and Health Coach, I help both men and women who feel unhappy with their weight and general health to regain control of their lives. My coaching process is designed to:

  • Build Trust and Rapport: I create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be completely honest.

  • Develop a Clear Vision: Together, we’ll visualise possibilities and adapt to new opportunities.

  • Commit to Growth: I’ll help you stay focused and committed to achieving your personal goals.

Why not give coaching a try? Whether you’re looking to improve your health, manage your weight, or simply find greater fulfilment in life, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
